Did you know that only 1% of the earth’s water is actually drinkable? That’s a shockingly low percentage! Also not all water is usable in our daily lives, which include bathing, cooking, and cleaning, which is why governments in many countries around the world have launched campaigns aimed at water conservation. In some countries, different housing areas will experience water cuts for a few hours in an attempt to help regulate the use of water. Aqua by Chris Millard hopes to add to water conservation with this concept washbasin, which not only promotes hygiene, but also helps to save water at the same time.

How it works is that low water pressure will cause water to be pushed out of the holes from the helmet-shaped washbasin, and by rubbing your hands in a circular motion, it’s supposed to help get your hands clean faster, and also help to exfoliate your skin. Thanks to the water coming from the top of the basin, the back of your hands and your palms will be washed simultaneously, reducing the need for additional water.

Hand sanitizers will also be released when hands are placed over the washbasin, which would help to promote hygiene. It’s a pretty interesting concept, and since no actual hygiene tests have been conducted, we’ll have to take the designer’s word for it.
