Electric vehicles and hybrids have been getting quite a bad rep for the wrong reasons. There is the misconception that electric vehicles and their hybrid counterparts are less powerful than their fuel powered siblings which is something that was true in the past with the first few EV’s that were put out. Popular among male car enthusiasts is that driving an electric car or a hybrid would be considered “girly” which was pointed out several times in various cartoons and comedies.
Now it looks like they’re hoping to change the minds of the critics in the UK by running a trial in which they will test 14 different high performance electric vehicles over the course of the next 12 months by putting the drivers through the same driving conditions and dynamics that regular road cars face.
The project is called EEMS Accelerate and is partly funded by the UK government in an effort to showcase high performance, low emission vehicles that have been designed and built in the UK and challenge any misgivings and preconceptions that were held by the public with regards to electric vehicles, for example the car above is the Electric Lightning GT and judging by its looks alone you probably would not have guessed it is an EV, but it is and it is able to achieve a top speed of 130mph and able to go from zero to 60mph in less than 5 seconds, probably not as fast as some of the regular sports cars but sure as heck a lot better than some of the regular consumer cars on the road these days.
