Adam Place has an idea to revolutionize the way musical instruments work – with the AlphaSphere. He worked on it with a team of Bristol sound engineers to churn out this spanking new musical instrument. Adam Place’s idea came about because he started to get bored with conventional keyboards, and decided to play synthesized music in a different manner.

According to Adam, “But with the AlphaSphere, the notes change as you press harder and harder, you really engage with the instrument, and you can perform with it.” There are four dozen pressure pads which are arranged around the sphere to achieve the musical effect.

For example, pressing on one pad will see the sphere play a drum beat, and when you apply more pressure, the beat will accelerate. Perhaps another pad can be preprogrammed with a chord that has harmonics thrown in when pressing harder? It does seem as though there is going to be quite a steep learning curve attached to this AlphaSphere. What do you think?
