Sometimes when you’re out running errands, inspiration and even a melody for a song might hit you out of nowhere. By the time you get home the mood is lost and what could have been a Billboard #1 hit has been relegated to just a distant memory. If that sounds like a familiar scenario, then have you ever considered bring with you a portable music machine? If you have, then perhaps Dallas Austin’s Beat Thang rhythm generator (among many others) is something worth considering.

Unfortunately to take your consideration and turn it into a decision may very well cost you $1,500. However if you do have the cash to spare and you’re looking to take your music recording to another level, the Beat Thang is said to feature 3,000 original sounds, hundreds of pre-existing loops, patterns and beats and sporting 65 digital effects along with sampling, editing and mixing capability. It can even record new sounds which will then be stored on an SD card. If the default sounds aren’t to your liking, they can be tweaked further by adjusting the EQ and other parameters such as reverse, reverb, delay, filter and compressor.

Featuring a 3.5-inch LCD display, with USB and MIDI interfaces along with 32GB of internal storage, it is compatible with both Macs and PCs, but if you do plan on getting one, you should probably move fast as the Beat Thang only has 1,000 units available at the moment and you can get your copy from Best Buy
