Are you tired of not being able to find band mates to jam along with you when you’re bored at home? Well it looks like you won’t have any trouble doing so in the future. A Japanese researcher has managed to repurpose the HRP-2 humanoid robot from Kawada Industries to be the perfect musical companion.

Using a program, the robot is able to listen to and watch a human being play the acoustic guitar, and then pick up the beat and melody of the song. The robot can then use its Theremin to play the same melody at the same exact rhythm as the human it is mimicking – talk about a perfect companion! Now only if they could program it to play in harmonies… now that would be even more impressive.
