You can never quite tell when a heart attack is going to happen – there rarely are any symptoms available, although you can definitely do your part in minimizing the risk by eating right, sleeping well, managing your stress and getting enough exercise. For those who have experienced heart attacks, chances are they’d do anything to recover from the ordeal well – and perhaps a team of researchers at MIT and the Children’s Hospital Boston has crafted a new method to increase the chances of post-heart attack survival.

The teams managed to construct cardiac patches that are studded with tiny gold nanowires which could be used to create pieces of tissue whose cells all beat in time – basically mimicking the dynamics of natural heart muscle. Having said that, with gold being a safe haven in this day and age considering the volatility of the economies worldwide, I won’t be surprised to see these cardiac patches get more and more expensive by the day due to the rising price of gold.
