LG Optimus SQuite some time ago, LG promised consumers that its highly successful Android phone, the LG Optimus S would be receiving Android 2.3 Gingerbread. It’s been awhile since we’ve heard anything, and most users would’ve rooted their phones and loaded up a custom Gingerbread ROM themselves but for those of you who weren’t in a rush – good news. Staying true to their word, LG has released the Gingerbread update for the Optimus S (the Optimus one for Sprint).

Starting today, Sprint LG Optimus S owners can keep an eye out on their phone for the notification to download the update. It’s going to take awhile to roll out to all of Sprint’s subscribers, so there’s a good chance you won’t be getting it today – just keep your eyes peeled. In addition to Android Gingerbread, the update will also include some other fixes and improvements to the phone. As usual, be sure to backup everything on your phone – just in case. Despite being an official update, you’ll never know what might go wrong. If you get the LG Optimus S Gingerbread update today, let us know how it goes for you.
