The ecoATM is not exactly the newest gizmo to hit the block, but that does not mean it is not capable of impressing others. The ecoATM is an innovative kiosk that has a heart for the environment, as it automates the buy-back process of second hand portable electronics as well as phones straight from the consumers themselves, cutting out the middle man in the process. This award-winning kiosk can be viewed in the Grand Lobby of the Las Vegas Convention Center, where it will be ‘planted’ right inside the front doors between Central Hall and North Hall at CES 2012 which is set to kick off next week. Hopefully the ecoATM will raise awareness among folks on recycling old electronics, as it relies on patented machine vision, electronic diagnostics, and artificial intelligence to evaluate and buy back used phones as well as MP3 players, spitting out cash or store credit in the process. Considering how tablets are all the rage these days, this group of devices, too, will be part of the ecoATM’s recycling efforts later this month. [Press Release]
