Let’s face it – we’ve all been guilty of texting while driving. It’s a big no-no but there are times and messages that are simply too important (or “important”) to ignore. Personally I have been pretty lucky that I have not gotten into any accidents so far (touch wood!) but that does not mean that I will always be lucky. This is one of the messages that AT&T is trying to highlight as part of its “It Can Wait” campaign, and one of the ways the carrier is trying to raise awareness is by lugging along a driving simulator to Seattle’s Garfield High School.

If you’re wondering what the simulator is about, well it’s basically designed to simulate what it would be like to text while driving in a simulated and safe environment. If you’re guilty of texting while driving, you know how distracting it can be not to mention dangerous, i.e. swerving into the wrong lane, narrowly missing objects and almost rear-ending the car in front of you. So what can we do then? One of the proposed solutions by AT&T is the app called DriveMode. Designed for both Blackberry and Android devices in mind, the app will respond automatically to text messages or even emails while the user is driving.

Personally I would have loved to have a go in the simulator but in any case, check out the video below where the folks at GeekWire interviewed the students about their experience on texting while driving.
