Sony’s most recent handheld console, the PS Vita, has finally passed the 1 million sales mark in its home country, Japan. This might sound impressive to some, but when you take into consideration previous handheld consoles, it is a rather dismal figures. Taking its own sweet time of 42 weeks to arrive at the sales milestone, the PS Vita was lagging behind its predecessor, the PlayStation Portable (PSP) and its rival for the moment, the Nintendo 3DS. When you contrast it with the Nintendo 3DS, Nintendo’s dual screen handheld took a mere 13 weeks to pass the 1 million mark, while the Sony PSP required an additional week compared to the 3DS. Heck, in the week beginning October 1st, the PSP still outsold the PS Vita by nearly 10,000 units. I guess hitting one million at 42 weeks is a case of better late than never – what do you think? Do you own a PS Vita or plan on getting one anytime soon?
