mojang-scrollsMojang could eventually end up as a victim of their own success, which is the extremely popular game Minecraft, and anything else that they roll out after that might not be able to live up to Minecraft’s success. Sort of like what Rovio is experiencing at the moment with their Angry Birds franchise that has more or less taken the world by storm for quite some time now, and we have not seen anything remotely capable of knocking Angry Birds off their lofty perch from future Rovio releases – unless our crystal ball is defective, that is. We did talk about how Mojang’s Scrolls is going to be released as a beta today, and here we are with Mojang being right on the money. In Scrolls, you as the player will need to use a clever combination of heroes, spells and artefacts in order to defend your idols.

This is a battle game that will pit a couple of players against one another, and you will summon artefacts and spells from a virtual deck of cards. Open beta has begun from today onwards, and just like how Minecraft worked, folks who purchased the beta version, which would cost £13 at the moment, will fork out a reduced price when the full title arrives, not to mention will be on the receiving end of future updates for free.
