mortal-kombatAt the end of 2011, NetherRealm Studios announced that they would be putting the Mortal Kombat franchise on hiatus. Well the good news is that if you were looking forward to a new Mortal Kombat game, it looks like the hiatus could be off as it seems that a new Mortal Kombat game is reportedly in the works. This was confirmed by Mortal Kombat Legacy producer Lance Sloan (via GamerHub.tv) during Comic-Con this year. There is no official title yet and details about the game remain scarce, but according to Sloane, the game is expected to be released alongside the launch of the new Mortal Kombat movie.

Sloane was quoted as saying, “We’ve been in greenlight committee for a while at the studio and we’ve got a great script […] And we’ve got a great director with Kevin Tancharoen, who is on board. It’s just figuring out the business side of it and when we would do it and when we would launch it and how do we sync up with the launch of the game that they’re working on now. It’s not 100 per cent yet, but we’re getting closer every day.” The last we heard, the next Mortal Kombat title was expected to be developed for next-gen consoles, but since no official details have been given, we guess we will just have to wait and find out. So, who else is excited by this news?
