Let’s have a show of hands of gamers who have actually played the original Warcraft and its sequel, Warcraft 2? Chances are if you have been gaming back in the day, then these are titles which are familiar to you and could bring back some fond memories, and the good news is that if you wanted to relive them, you might have your chance. While one might think Blizzard is currently focusing on going forward, it seems that a small team in the company is currently working on bring Warcraft: Orcs & Humans, along with Warcraft 2: Tides of Darkness, onto modern PCs.
This was revealed by the World of Warcraft producer director, J. Allen Brack. According to Brack and in response to a question from a fan who asked if Blizzard would consider making older titles compatible with newer PCs, “So, we actually have a guy on our team — actually several guys on our team — who are actually working on a side project to do something like that in some form or fashion […] We’re fans of Warcraft 1, Warcraft 2, Warcraft 3, and we’d love to replay those games for sure.”
Why would Blizzard want to do that? Perhaps to give fans and gamers some context for the upcoming World of Warcraft movie, which as you might recall during the presentation at BlizzCon 2013, would be loosely based on Warcraft: Orcs & Humans and provide an “origins” story so-to-speak, as opposed to picking out a story in the current universe, such as with Arthas and the whole Lich King saga which many felt would have made a worthy movie plot candidate. No word on when these titles will see a release, but who else is looking forward to replaying some classics?
