The year ends in less than two weeks and most people are already looking forward to the new year. New resolutions will be made and most of all, people will look forward to all of the amazing things that are expected to come out in 2014. Before we look ahead though, it would certainly be nice to look back at this year one last time and see what captivated us, held our attention and drew us in. So taking a look at the top Google searches of 2013 makes sense, the internet search giant has released its most global Zeitgeist to date, which contains more than 1,000 top 10 lists of various search categories such as Most Searched Events, Trending People and Top Trending Searches from 72 countries.

The first spot on the top 10 global trending searches of 2013 is taken up by Nelson Mandela. There was already a surge of global search interest in the former South African president which further increased after his recent passing. Madiba has been a symbol for perseverance and peace for decades, naturally the world turned to the internet to find out more about his life and legacy. Second on the list is Paul Walker, most known for his role in the Fast and Furious movie series, his recent passing was also deeply felt around the globe. The tragic events of Boston Marathon put it at number six, followed by Galaxy S4, PlayStation 4 and North Korea in eighth, ninth and tenth respectively. Over 1,000 top 10 lists are available through the official Zeitgeist homepage for those who want to explore more global trends, Zeitgeist hosts search data as far back as 2001.
