Hongmi-1S

If there’s one thing about Chinese smartphone manufacturers is that they tend to be able to put out devices with extremely low price points, and if you were after a budget handset, Xiaomi might have something for you in the form of the Hongmi 1S. We have heard of Xiaomi’s Hongmi brand before and according to earlier rumors, the successor to the Hongmi was expected to be something of a high-end affair, and while that might still happen, the Hongmi 1S is another Hongmi branded device, except with lower-end specs, although given that the device will be priced at $130, we guess we can’t really complain.

So what sort of specs are we talking about? Well for starters the handset will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 chipset that has been clocked at 1.6GHz. It will also pack 1GB of RAM, 16GB of onboard storage which can be further expanded via microSD, and will also feature a 4.7-inch 1280×720 HD display with a pixel density of 312PPI, which in all honesty is pretty decent. It will play nice with both CDMA and GSM networks, dual-SIM support, an 8MP rear-facing camera with a f/2.2 aperture and LED flash, a 1.6MP front-facing camera, and Android 4.3 Jelly Bean with Xiaomi’s MIUI V5 interface on top. It has been pegged for a 20th of February release in China, although no word on whether it will make its way to other parts of the world.
