Low-Profile-keyboard_thumbWhen it comes to typing on our smartphones, we rely on virtual keyboards, unless of course you were to go out and purchase a keyboard case or accessory. That being said, given how often we use our keyboards, it is important that these virtual keyboards are not only responsive, but accurate as well.

After all no one likes having to continuously correct their typing or send out embarrassing autocorrects, right? Well it seems that in the upcoming Windows Phone 8.1 update, Microsoft could be introducing not only a T9 keyboard, but also a low-profile keyboard as well.

What does it mean by low-profile keyboard? Well as you can see in the image above, courtesy of Techrum.vn, it shows a keyboard that is smaller than the regular keyboard that comes with Windows Phone 8.1.

This is thanks to the leaked Windows Phone 8.1 SDK and according to the reports, it has been suggested that this low-profile keyboard will only take up about 20% of the screen’s height and will also see the removal of the emoticon button and word suggestion bar.

Sure it seems like it might make it a little more difficult to type on, but at the same time for those who are confident about their typing skills and wouldn’t mind a little more screen real estate when typing out a document or composing an email, this low-profile mode might just be what the doctor ordered.

So what do you guys think? Are Windows Phone users appreciative of this new low-profile keyboard layout? Also, is this a feature other smartphone users would like to see introduced to their phones?
