icarusEbooks are surely gaining popularity among the masses, but when it comes to the number of ebook reader releases in the market, those are not as popular as a regular tablet, leaving consumers with not that many choices in the first place. However, the relative few ebook readers in the market do show a sizeable number of them running on Android-based software, such as Barnes & Noble’s NOOK eReader. Enter the Icarus Illumina HD that comes with a 6” E Ink display alongside Android 4.2 as the operating system of choice, not to mention boasting of the Amazon Kindle app right out of the box.

Do bear in mind that the Kindle app for Android was not designed for devices that features grayscale displays and slow screen refresh rates, so it is rather surprising to hear on how the Icarus Illumina HD handled the app decently. Of course, one might want want to skip the grid view as the animation effects are nothing short of awful on an E Ink screen. Regardless, you can take advantage of the Kindle Store in order to purchase and download eBooks, reading your purchases on it directly. The asking price for the Icarus Illumina HD is $180 thereabouts via Amazon, where it carries a 1024 x 768 pixel Pearl E Ink display, 4GB of internal memory that can be further expanded via a microSD memory card reader, and a 2,000mAh battery.
