android mpMultiplayer games on Android are nothing new and there are plenty of such games that gamers can choose from. However if you didn’t relish the idea of using mobile internet to play games when you’re sitting right next to each other, that could soon be changing. Google has recently announced that local multiplayer could soon be making its way onto Android.

For those wondering how this works, it’s sort of like how Nintendo DS gamers can play local multiplayer with nearby players, except that in this case it is for Android devices. This feature will be added in an Android update that will enable gamers to enjoy “ambient, real-time” gaming between multiple users.

Of course developers will have to add this feature to their games, so if a developer chooses to ignore it and keep using a third-party service to host multiplayer games, we guess you’d be out of luck. However if a developer enables it, then local multiplayer is something you can look forward to.

Of course we have no idea when developers will start introducing this feature to their games, but it’s definitely something to keep an eye out on. In the meantime is anyone else excited at the idea of local multiplayer in Android games?
