homeboyThere are probably many different types of home security cameras available in the market today, but if you’re looking for an alternative, perhaps the Homeboy could be worth checking out. Designed by Mark Richards who was frustrated after having his home burglarized for the third time, the Homeboy is a tiny home surveillance camera that mounts on the wall or ceiling via magnets.

In a way this allows users to pretty much place the camera wherever they want and can shift it around as needed. All they’d need to do is install the base on the wall or ceiling or wherever they want, and they can easily mount/dismount the device as needed. The Homeboy also comes with a battery life of three months so you won’t have to worry about it running out of juice anytime soon.

The premise of the device is to allow multiple users to “watch” your home. For example you can include friends and family into your group where they will receive notifications when motion has been detected. This is great when you’re outstation and a friend or relative can swing on by to see if there is anything shady going on.

Video recording will begin when motion has been detected, and for more advanced users, Homeboy has been integrated into the If This Then That app as well as Philips Hue lightbulbs and the Nest thermostat. This means that when the motion detector is triggered, it can turn on the lights or post a tweet or adjust the thermostat and so on. If you’re interested in the Homeboy, you can head on over to its website where it can be pre-ordered for $149.
