Bungie today released a new patch for Destiny. The version 1.1 update for this title brings tweaks for the way armor and exotic weapons work in the title. It brings about a fundamental change in the upgrade path for exotic weapons and armor, Ascendant Energy and Shards are no longer required, respectively, for upgrades. The final upgrade step for all exotic items now requires a new material type called the Exotic Shard.

This material can be obtained in the game by dismantling an exotic weapon that you already have. One can also be purchased from Xur for seven Strange Coins. The base attack level for all exotic weapons have also been raised from 260 in this patch.

Bungie has also improved certain exotic weapons after countless players felt that they didn’t quite live up to the hype. Improved weapons include the auto rifle Monte Carlo which is a PlayStation exclusive, Thorn hand cannon and the Vex Mythoclast fusion rifle. Bungie promises that exotics are going to be a “constant work-in-progress,” so players should expect things to improve more down the line.

Bungie has confirmed through Twitter that version 1.1 patch for Destiny is now live. You will have to exit the game and restart to be able to download this update, which comes in at 75MB.
