3drudder-1[CES 2015] I admire drummers a whole lot – they seem to have full control of both hands and feet, making unbelievable beats with impeccable timing to keep the entire musical performance going without missing a, er, beat, pardon the pun. Having said that, when we make use of a computer, most of the time it would be both our hands that are occupied. What if there was a way to maximize efficiency using one’s feet as well? 3DRudder, a device that we talked about last year, has made its debut at CES Unveiled this evening.

The 3DRudder is a foot powered motion controller that is meant for 3D design and gaming, where it hails from a France-based company. This rudder-like controller would not be too far off the mark by being similar to the ones that are used by flight simulation fans, with feet being part of the entire control process. However, the 3DRudder is a whole lot more capable, since your feet can navigate the 3D environment via tilting, pitching, and rotating among others.

It will hopefully be compatible with a slew of software which will range from 3D graphics software to games – hopefully beyond that of flight simulators. Thanks to its multi-axis nature, the 3DRudder comes in the form of a round, one-piece device which looks something like one of those smart robotic vacuum cleaners.

So far, the 3DRudder is slated for a May 2015 rollout date if all goes well. We have given it a spin on the CES Unveiled showfloor and it worked very well.
