faa-cnnUsing a drone without the proper license could land you in trouble in certain parts of the world – and there is still plenty of work to be done in the regulation of the use of drones, of course. Still, it is nice to know that some progress has been made, as the FAA has worked alongside news network CNN to research the use of drones when it comes to news reporting. This particular study is said to draw up the possible framework when it comes to news organizations making use of drones to cover a particular story.

The FAA, or Federal Aviation Administration in full, has in principal, agreed to work alongside CNN and the Georgia Tech Research Institute (GTRI) on a research initiative which will involve commercial drone use. This agreement could assist the FAA when it comes to working out its unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) rules, and the ultimate goal would be to figure out a framework which could eventually enable the wider use of drones when it comes to news gathering and news reporting operations.

CNN Senior Vice President David Vigilante, shared, “Our aim is to get beyond hobby-grade equipment and to establish what options are available and workable to produce high quality video journalism using various types of UAVs and camera setups.” All the best is what we can say!
