fb-amber-alertJust how useful is Facebook in your everyday life? While I am quite sure that it has its fair share of uses – including being able to let the whole world know just what you ate for dinner, here is something which would make it worth having in times of an emergency – Facebook can now depict amber alerts in its news feeds so that users will not be oblivious to the fact that there are missing or abducted children out there. This venture was launched alongside the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children so that information will be delivered in specific, targeted search areas after an abduction occurs.

Such alerts will make their way to mobile devices too, which means desktop users are not the only ones who will see these. Other than photos, additional and important details will be put up, and you can also share them with friends or link to the latest information provided.

Facebook received inspiration to add such alerts after missing children were recovered thanks to independently posted information by users. This is not the first time a tech company has decided to display amber alerts, as Microsoft’s Bing also boasts of assistance in amber alert child searches. [Press Release]
