google-helpoutsGoogle Hangouts is a great feature to use if you want to chat with friends or family or even colleagues. Users can even video conference using Hangouts, which is how Google Helpouts was conceived. Some of you guys might recall the feature being launched back in 2013 where the idea was for users to get advice on certain topics via video chats from the experts.

However if you haven’t heard of it let alone bother to use it, chances are you are not alone. Google has recently announced that they will be shutting down the Helpouts service on the 20th of April, claiming that there has not been enough interest in the platform and the lack of growth which is why they have decided to put an end to it.

According to Google, “The Helpouts community includes some engaged and loyal contributors, but unfortunately, it hasn’t grown at the pace we had expected. Sadly, we’ve made the tough decision to shut down the product.” For those who have helped out, Google is giving these contributors the option to download their data via Takeaway.

The data will be available from the 20th of April until the 1st of November. In the meantime Google has turned to using Hangouts to provide customer service to their customers, so perhaps that could be the start of something new?
