In some markets Samsung is the undisputed king. It holds the number one spot and enjoys dominance in the entire market. In others the company isn’t as successful, take Japan for example, where Samsung is the sixth major smartphone OEM. Earlier today a rumor emerged online claiming that due to the dismal performance of its mobile business in the country Samsung could pull out completely from Japan. The company has rubbished this rumor.

Its not like Samsung hasn’t tried to improve its fortunes in Japan. Last year it released the Galaxy Note Edge first for customers in Japan but the special treatment doesn’t seem to have done much to improve Samsung’s position in the Japanese smartphone market.

Apple’s dominance has continued to grow in Japan, pushing Samsung’s 17 percent market share from two years ago to just 4 percent at the end of December 2014. The rumor claimed Samsung will leave this market because its actually losing money here.

When its TV business stopped making money in Japan, Samsung simply bowed out, and this happened back in 2007. So will the mobile business meet the same fate in the Land of the Rising Sun?

Apparently not. The company has confirmed to Sammobile that there is no truth to this rumor and that its not leaving the Japanese smartphone market yet.
