gyrocapitolAccording to the U.S. Capitol Police, there was a very small gyrocopter that carried one occupant that actually managed to land on the West Lawn of the Capitol this afternoon. The person had already been detained, while streets located in the area remained closed in order to facilitate the relevant and necessary investigations.

Those who were in Capitol offices did report the police making a beeline in the direction of the aircraft, before apprehending the pilot. The tiny craft managed to make its way right smack in the middle of the West Front Lawn, which is the spot where the annual Christmas tree as well as Fourth of July concert stage happened to be set up.

No chances were taken, as they even sent in a bomb squad, who made use of a bomb disposal robot in order to inspect the gyrocopter on the West Lawn. Everything does seem to remain in order at approximately 1:45 p.m., although police continued to block off any kind of access to the lawn. Doug Hughes was the man behind this flight, where he also wrestled with the possibility of being shot out of the sky if he were to not take all of those incoming warnings lightly. It is the perfect insane plan, and hopefully he would be able to cross it off his bucket list.
