umwThe Colosseum, in its height of glory, was not a very nice place to be at (in the arena, and not on the grandstands, of course) since it featured plenty of bloodbaths, where most of them happened to be entertainment for the masses at the expense of life. Well, mankind might have advanced to be a whole lot more civilized these days, but there is still the primal call of bloodlust. Having said that, we can now engage in full contact weapons fighting without spilling a single drop of blood.

Set to debut in 2016, the program known as Ultimate Weapons Master, or UWM for short, would enable folks to indulge in full contact weapons fighting – all the way to a virtual death. This is a futuristic new gladiator sport that is being developed in Sydney, Australia. Should it prove itself to be successful, then it would be the very first fighting sport which will enable its fighters to have a virtual health bar, which in turn makes it look like a real life video game.

UWM will make use of extremely high-tech suits of armor, and the armor will offer protection to the combatants at the same time deliver real-time updates on their “health” if they were to be involved in an actual brawl with real weapons sans armor. It would be interesting to see how much punishment can the armor take in the long run though.
