AT&T Tower

AT&T is reportedly going to announce a new program next week which will reward postpaid subscribers who interact with ads. Basically they’ll get free internet if they discover applications, view ads or make purchases from participating advertisers. AT&T is said to call this program Data Perks, which will be offered to its postpaid customers on a Mobile Share Value plan, that’s about 50 million customers.

According to VentureBeat, AT&T CEO Ralph de la Vega talked about Data Perks about a fortnight back at the Rutberg Conference in San Francisco. AT&T has not yet made a formal announcement for Data Perks.

Brands which are expected to take part in this program include Hotel Tonight, Fandango, Rosetta Stone. It’s said that close to 30 brands will take part in Data Perks by showing interactive advertising to participating subscribers on AT&T.

The way this will work is that if a subscriber purchases a DVD from a participating brand they may be awarded with 1GB of free data which they can use for browsing, streaming or anything that they want.

These data credits will be accumulated in a user’s Data Perks account which they will be able to transfer to their AT&T wireless account whenever they want.

As previously mentioned, AT&T is yet to formally announce Data Perks, the report suggests it will unveil this program next week on Tuesday.
