Facebook users are well aware of the fact that there’s never really a shortage of content in their News Feed, at times it can even be hard to go through all that content to stories and updates that might matter to you the most. That’s why Facebook continues to tweak News Feed to improve the user experience. In its latest tweak, Facebook says it’s going to factor in the time you spent on posts to improve your News Feed experience.

The world’s largest social network conducted some research and found out that in many cases just because a user hasn’t commented, liked or shared a post doesn’t mean they weren’t interested in it or that they didn’t spend time reading it.

For example you might now want to hit the Like button on breaking news of a natural disaster in some part of the world, even if you’re very interested in finding out all of the details related to that event and are reading through the entire story.

This is why Facebook is going to start measuring the time spent signal to improve News Feed experience for all of its users. If users spend a bit too much time on one post it’ll get noticed, and that signal will then be used to surface what is perceived to be the most relevant content for that particular user.

Facebook has said that this algorithm change is out and the roll out will continue to more markets in the coming weeks, it tells Page owners that they won’t see major changes in distributions after this update has been applied.
