google_messenger_updateIf you’re an Android user who has updated to Android 5.0 Lollipop or later, chances are you are familiar with the Google Messenger app. This app is basically the dedicated app for receiving SMS and MMS whereas previously it was bundled together with Hangouts. Now if you were hoping for the app to gain a bit more functionality, you’re in luck.

Google has recently released an update for the app and has bumped it up to version 1.4. With the update, the Messenger app got more “fun” in the sense that users can now send animated stickers to one another. The app has also been updated with easier location sharing so that you tell your friends and family members where you are.

The stickers are admittedly a nice touch but if anything, it serves to add a bit of confusion between the Facebook Messenger app and Google’s own Messenger app, both of which allows users to send animated stickers to one another and share location, but we suppose if you use the latter app more frequently then perhaps this update might be more relevant to you.

The latest update is currently unavailable via the Google Play Store. Instead users will have to download its APK to install it manually. If you’d rather not do that then we suppose you’ll just have to wait which we can only assume won’t be much longer.
