In a bid to attract more users to its Appstore, Amazon had a “Free App of the Day” program where paid apps would basically be free for download for 24 hours. However it looks like Amazon has officially killed off the program. Instead they have replaced it with a new initiative called Amazon Underground.

So what is Amazon Underground? Basically it will be more or less the same to its free app program, except that in this case, the company will offer apps that are truly free. This means that not only will the apps be free for download, but they will be free of in-app purchases as well, which is what some developers try to include when they make their apps free.

But wait, how will developers make money in this case? Amazon has thought of that too and has announced that they will be paying developers for every minute that users play their game or use their app. This means that it’s up to the developers to try and make their app as appealing as possible without having to resort to in-app purchases to spice things up.

That being said given that Google Play does not allow apps that serves up other apps, you will have to download the Amazon Underground app directly from Amazon themselves, so if this sounds like something you might be interested in, hit up the Underground website for the details.
