Netflix has been very vocal about its goal to expand to most countries across the globe by next year and it’s certainly putting that plan in motion. The online video streaming company confirmed today that it’s going to make its entrance in the Asian market by launching Netflix in Japan this September. Netflix confirmed the release date today and it has already set up a Japanese Twitter account and landing page on its website.

Earlier this year the company expanded its service to Australia and New Zealand and over the next couple of months it will be expanding to Spain, Italy and Portugal.

Netflix is currently available in around 50 countries and it aims to be present in at least 200 countries by the end of 2016 so it does have a mammoth task on its hand to achieve this goal.

Its expansion into a major Asian market like Japan opens up a huge potential subscriber base that’s obviously going to generate a lot of revenue. There’s no doubt that Netflix will host a lot of content that appeals to the local audience in Japan aside from the usual slew of movies, TV shows and documentaries.

So far it hasn’t been revealed how much subscribers in Japan will have to pay in order to access the service, but Netflix has confirmed that the streaming service will be live in Japan on September 2nd.
