drone-only-spaceIf the idea of a drone hovering above you armed with a camera already makes you a tad uneasy, then you might not be too happy to hear that over in North Dakota, the police can now legally arm their drones with non-lethal weapons, thanks to the passing of Bill 1328 sponsored by Rep. Rick Becker.

However it seems that the Bill was originally intended to limit police surveillance, but a police lobby group managed to amend the bill, which has resulted in drones being armed. So what does this mean? Basically these drones can now be armed with weapons such as tear gas, tasers, and rubber bullets, just to name a few non-lethal weapons.

That being said while Becker was the original sponsor, it seems that he’s not too pleased by what has happened. According to a report from The Daily Beast, Becker was quoted as saying during a hearing in March, “This is one I’m not in full agreement with. In my opinion there should be a nice, red line: drones should not be weaponized. Period.”

Unfortunately what’s done is done, and while we suppose it is legal, we can only imagine how uneasy these weaponized drones are making civilians feel, but what say you? Do you think these drones are a good idea?
