Just last year Google announced that Android had clinched over one billion users across the globe and the company made no secret of the fact that it’s chasing after the next billion, it’s certainly coming close to that goal because at its event today Google confirmed that Android is now being used by more than 1.4 billion people across the globe. Google CEO Sundar Pichai said that “The scale at which everything is working is pretty breathtaking to see,” we’ll take his word for it.

Pichai also said that the company is putting resources towards large, open ecosystems and platforms with Google Play being one of those platforms which itself now has more than one billion users.

Play isn’t the first Google service to hit one billion users though, at Google I/O earlier this year the company announced that YouTube and Chrome both have more than one billion users each while Gmail came in close behind back then with 900 million users signed up.

Google will certainly not be slowing down any time soon, it wouldn’t be wise to think so, Pichai has reiterated the company’s commitment to get the next billion, saying that Google is well on its way to “bringing the next billion devices online.”
