Some of the most watched videos on YouTube are gameplay videos, it might seem odd to people who have no interest in games but there’s actually a very large community that actively views gameplay videos. The fact that someone who makes gameplay videos has the highest number of subscribers on YouTube goes to show just how popular this content can be, which is why it wasn’t surprising when YouTube got the ability to live stream games being played on an Android device. Now with the latest update for Google Play Games users can record gameplay on their device as well.

Google confirmed today that soon a new feature will be rolled out for Google Play Games, this will enable users to record footage of any game that they’re playing on their Android device, users will also be able to add voice and video commentary to create a proper gameplay video which they can then share through any medium of their choice.

To record gameplay users will simply need to launch the app and select the game they want to record. The next step is to choose screen capture resolution, 720p and 480p is supported for now, the front camera can be switched on if video commentary is to be added. The app will also provide basic editing options which will be good enough to trim and fine tune a video before it’s uploaded.

Essentially the only difference between this feature and YouTube Gaming is that users will not be streaming live, other than that it’s pretty much the same, and it goes without saying that majority of the gameplay videos are going to end up on YouTube anyway.

Look for this Google Play Games update to arrive in the United States and the United Kingdom in the near future.
