There’s rising speculation these days that Huawei might be considering a move into the laptop market, an area where the company doesn’t really have much of a presence, but since it has registered the “MateBook” trademark many believe that Huawei’s entry in the PC market is just a matter of time now. The company itself has said nothing about its laptop ambitions just yet, so it’s far from official.

Huawei certainly isn’t the only Chinese smartphone manufacturer rumored to be breaking into the PC market. For months there have been rumors that Xiaomi is considering a similar move but nothing has materialized as yet, it’s not believed that Xiaomi’s first laptop might be unveiled in the first quarter of next year.

The same is now being said for Huawei, it recently registered the MateBook trademark in China. Huawei has generally used the Mate branding for its mobile devices so for all we know it might intend to use the MateBook moniker for a larger tablet, or something of a tablet/PC hybrid that aren’t exactly that uncommon anymore.

There’s no information available about the possible specifications of a Huawei laptop, all of this is based on one of Huawei’s trademarks, and who knows whether it has just trademarked the moniker only for the sake of having it or whether it really is planning an entry into the very competitive PC market. Only time will tell.
