amazon_two_stepIt used to be that back in the day, passwords were all we needed to prevent other people from accessing our online accounts. Fast forward to today with hacking technology becoming more sophisticated, and the scams that people are running to try and steal your passwords being more elaborate, it seems that the need for better security is now.

The good news is that if you’re an Amazon shopper, it looks like Amazon has finally hopped on board the two-factor authentication bandwagon. Many companies have introduced the feature over the past few years, following in the footsteps of banks and financial institutions who have introduced similar security measures via security tokens (these generate a one-time code to authenticate your transactions/logins).

The feature has not been officially announced by Amazon, but the good news is that you can go ahead and activate it anyway. To enable two-factor authentication on your Amazon account, login and go to “Your Account”. Select “Change Account Settings”, “Advanced Account Settings”, then click “Get Started”.

After that you will be able to begin the process of enabling two-factor authentication on your account. Users have the choice of either using QR codes via Authy or Google’s Authenticator app, or they can get authentication codes delivered to their phone via text.
