Looking to create truly immersive virtual reality videos? The technology is available like the GoPro Odyssey rig which features a combination of 16 GoPro cameras attached in a circle. The cost of such a setup? A whopping $15,000. Many of us probably don’t have that budget or don’t want to spend that kind of money, so what can we do?

Enter the LucidCam, a camera that can capture videos at 180-degrees and for a price of $399, thus making virtual reality videos a bit more affordable for the masses. Now 180-degree isn’t exactly ideal if you want to create a truly immersive experience, but for a start it is pretty decent and 180-degree is more or less turning your head from side-to-side.

However according to LucidCam’s CEO Han Jin, you can create a 360-degree video by combining 3 units in a triangular array and stitching the footage via LucidCam’s software. It will be more expensive but still cheaper than getting the $15,000 GoPro Odyssey rig. Now the LucidCam isn’t the only affordable 360-degree camera in the market today.

However right now because it is on Indiegogo trying to raise funds, the company is offering a special price of $299 for its first 325 backers, so it is probably one of the cheapest options in the market today. If you’d like to learn more or pledge your support, head on over to its Indiegogo page for the details.
