Ride-hailing service Uber has launched a new feature that allows drivers to set a destination and pick up riders who are only headed in that very same direction. This is going to improve a driver’s chances of picking up a fare when they’re driving back from someplace where there’s no guarantee that they’d get another rider going the opposite way, like driving from Palo Alto to San Francisco.

This feature is currently available only in the San Francisco Bay Area but it’s certainly quite likely that the feature will be expanded to other cities in the future, assuming that the data shows that this feature has proven to be really useful.

Drivers can use this feature to set a destination and Uber will filter the requests so that only riders going in that particular direction are shown as possible fares. It’s available in San Francisco and destinations across town such as Berkeley, Marin and San Jose and is available on UberPOOL, UberX and Uber’s select service.

Uber will only allow drivers to set such destinations twice in a single day, making this feature a very good option for part-time drivers that wouldn’t mind making a bit of money on the side as they run errands or drive home after work.
