If there is a trend that developers and publishers seem to be adopting these days, it would be the DLC model in which they will release the main game, and any additional updates like new characters, new maps, or new content in general will usually be sold separately from the main game.

Ultimately this leads to gamers spending more than they would like. However the good news is that if you’re looking forward to playing Blizzard’s Overwatch, the company has revealed some of their post-launch plans. In the video above, the game’s director Jeff Kaplan revealed that Blizzard plans on making future content for the game like maps and heroes free of charge.

According to Kaplan, “When we patch a new hero into the game, we want it to be free and not as DLC.” This echoes Kaplan’s previous comments made to Polygon during BlizzCon 2015, in which he said that it could not be further from the truth when he was asked if future characters would have to be purchased.

Overwatch is still currently in beta but gamers who are interested in purchasing the game can go ahead and place a pre-order. The game has been scheduled for a release in the spring 2016, but no specific dates have been mentioned yet.
