oppo-u3-frontWhen you think of the major smartphone players, you might think of brands like Sony, Samsung, LG, HTC, Apple, Motorola, and so on. A name that’s been on the rise from China is Xiaomi, but it looks like its rival OPPO is nipping on their heels because according to the latest report, OPPO has done really well for themselves.

According to a recent report by TrendForce, it has been revealed that OPPO managed to sell a whopping 50 million smartphones in 2015 alone. Apparently this is a big enough number to propel the company into the top ten smartphone brands around the world, or to be more specific, it has allowed OPPO to nab the eighth spot.

The sale of 50 million smartphones represents a 67% year-on-year growth for the company. According to TrendForce, they expect that 2016 will be a good year for the company as well. “2016 will also see OPPO strengthen its well-deserved brand image as a provider of superb camera experiences, while at the same time putting an increased emphasis on bringing OPPO phones to a wider range of users, by providing devices that bring phenomenal quality-to-price ratios.”

OPPO is expected to launch a new F1 smartphone later this year, which according to TrendForce is a step in the right direction. Whether or not that is true remains to be seen, but in the meantime if you are looking at alternative brands, OPPO seems to be a worthy competitor.
