ColorOS 17 Announced With New Design And AI Features

OPPO has officially announced ColorOS 17 in China, introducing a redesigned interface, performance improvements, and new artificial intelligence features for compatible OPPO, OnePlus, and realme smartphones. Based on Android 17, the update adopts the company’s new Fluid Design, which includes visual effects designed to make interactions feel more responsive. 

According to OPPO, the new Aurora Engine improves system performance in several areas. The company claims that ColorOS 17 can keep 55% more applications active in RAM, launch apps with 35% greater stability, and improve launch speeds by 15%. Rendering visual effects reportedly places 30% less load on the CPU and GPU, while photo browsing in the gallery is said to be 50% faster. 

The built-in Heytap assistant, formerly known as Breeno, has also received upgrades. It is designed to understand daily context, provide reminders about appointments, track tasks, and remember payments and events. The assistant also integrates with more than 700 Chinese services. Notifications can display dynamic progress indicators, allowing users to follow the stages of ongoing tasks. 

ColorOS 17 introduces a camera-based recognition mode capable of identifying objects, improving document readability, estimating food calories, and connecting to Wi-Fi networks. It can also automatically display boarding passes, concert tickets, and receipts when they are relevant to the user’s location or activity. 

The native gallery gains an advanced DaVinci editor, which supports natural-language commands. The update also expands integration with action cameras, NAS devices, and smart equipment. 

Connectivity has been simplified for smartwatches, cars, cameras, and earphones. On compatible watches, the new FatMax feature identifies heart-rate zones associated with exercise goals and includes voice guidance and a personalized Super Fat Burning Mode for aerobic workouts. 

Air Gestures can also control connected ColorOS 17 phones, including music and video playback and the camera shutter. 

Finally, OPPO says the update strengthens security through intelligent fraud detection. The system can block malicious links, dangerous app installations, and payments associated with scams. Video calls may also benefit from the detection of deepfakes, AI-generated voices, and suspicious scripts received through messages. A rollout schedule was also announced for supported devices.
