samsung_nx_closeoutThere have been rumors that Samsung could be closing down their camera business. In fact they have already started pulling out of certain European markets, but apparently that isn’t the case, or at least that’s what Samsung told the folks at Imaging Resource when they said, “Withdrawing from the camera business is not true and there is no official plan to stop production of cameras and lenses.”

However oddly enough, it seems that despite Samsung not exiting the market, for some reason the company’s series of NX lenses for their mirrorless cameras are listed on closeout on websites such as Adora and Best Buy. For those unfamiliar with the term closeout, it basically refers to the sale of goods at lowered prices in an attempt to get rid of stock.

Now this can mean several things. One is that Samsung could be rehauling its entire camera division and that by getting rid of old stock, Samsung can then introduce new products. The alternative is that Samsung could really be exiting the market and retailers have caught wind and are trying to dump as much product as possible while they still hold some value.

Last not least, it is possible that this is just a sale. Of course this is just speculation for now as Samsung has yet to officially announce anything, so try not to read too much into this, but what do you guys think of it? Is this a sign that Samsung could indeed be getting ready to leave the camera market?
