There was a lot of speculation about a new Indiana Jones movie recently and all of that has gone out the window now. Disney has just confirmed that a new Indiana Jones movie will be made and that it’s scheduled to open in 2019. Yes, Harrison Ford will return as Indiana Jones, and the new movie will be directed by Steven Spielberg.
Not a lot of details have been revealed about this project by Disney today, however, it did confirm that Kathleen Kennedy and Frank Marshall who worked on previous movies in this series will be coming back as producers.
George Lucas is missing from today’s announcement even though he developed the story for the previous four Indiana Jones movies. This suggests that Disney is looking for fresh talent, a move that paid off well with Star Wars: The Force Awakens, in which Harrison Ford came back to reprise his role as Han Solo.
We can expect more details about the plot and characters to emerge in the coming months. Even if Disney manages to keep a tight lid on all of it there will be rumors as there always are.
Disney has slated the new Indiana Jones movie for release on July 19th, 2019.
