redesigned like buttonIf you’ve noticed, you’ll realize that there are many sites (including ours) that have included Facebook “Like” buttons on their page. This is where users can “Like” the site’s Facebook page in general, or they can “Like” a particular post. In the past, the old design had the Facebook logo and the “Like” word written on it.

However it looks like that has changed because in an announcement by Facebook, they have revealed a redesigned social plugin button. As you can see in the photo above, it shows the new Like button that has done away with the Facebook logo. Instead we are greeted with the “thumb” and the word “Like”.

Given how people have come to associate the blue with Facebook, we guess there is no longer the need for the logo. Facebook also claims that because the thumbs up design is more recognizable, it has led to an increase in engagement, which is why they have instituted these changes.

“Our hypothesis was that more people would understand the thumbs up icon on the Like button, so we conducted qualitative and quantitative tests to measure them side-by-side. The results revealed an increase in engagement, so we are switching the Like button from the Facebook “f” logo to the thumbs up icon.”
