overwatch kanjiIn Blizzard’s latest shooter Overwatch, the company seems to have borrowed heavily from a variety of races and cultures for their characters, although we guess the most obvious would be Japanese with the characters (and brothers) Hanzo and Genji. However it seems that Blizzard’s choice of kanji is causing a bit of confusion.

As you can see in the image above, it was taken from the animated short for Hanzo and Genji and it shows the former kneeling in front of a huge scroll with kanji characters written on them. If you don’t understand it, you’re not alone, but for those who do, it literally reads, “dragon head, snake tail”.

However since it isn’t supposed to be read literally, the overall meaning has been translated to “anticlimax”. If fact if you were to Google Translate the 竜頭蛇尾 characters as a whole, you would get the same meaning. Many Japanese gamers have since taken to Twitter to express that the writing was hilarious and bizarre.

However we guess at the end of the day it doesn’t really impact what seems to be a great game, although if you’re a stickler for details, here’s hoping that this is something Blizzard will pay better attention to in the future.
