Sony today revealed that it has been hard at work on the next major system software update for the PlayStation 4 and it needs a little help from the community to test the update before it’s released to the public. Starting today, PlayStation 4 users can sign up for a chance to be selected as a beta tester for PlayStation 4 system software version 4.0. This will enable them to get a look at some of the improvements and new features coming to PlayStation 4 ahead of everybody else.

PS4 owners can register to be selected as a beta tester anytime between today and the start of the beta until early next month. Once the beta starts registration will be closed so be sure to get your name in before that happens.

Sony ran similar beta tests for system software version 3.00 and 3.50. Beta testers got to see all of the upcoming features and it’s going to be that way with the beta test for version 4.0 as well.

Once selected, beta testers will receive an email with instructions on how they can download the software, testers will be able to roll back to the existing public version 3.55 software any time they want.

Sony is going to talk more about the new features and improvements included in the upcoming update next month when the beta starts.
