DSC-RX100M4Sony has been pretty successful with its compact cameras, especially the RX100 series which seems to be rather popular amongst travellers. Now if you’re looking for a new compact, we have heard rumors that the RX100 V is being worked on, although last we heard it was expected to arrive in June but obviously that did not happen.

Now thanks to Sony Alpha Rumors, some additional information about the upcoming camera has been revealed. According to their sources, Sony is said to be switching from the use of SD cards to UFS cards. It is unclear if Sony will be making their own UFS cards, but last we heard, Samsung unveiled their own removable UFS cards, so we guess that’s one option.

In case you’re unfamiliar, UFS is currently used in devices like smartphones and is said to be faster and more efficient than accessing regular SD/microSD cards. However for the longest time UFS was internal, meaning that until Samsung came along, they could not be removed or swapped around like microSD cards, so obviously for Sony to make the switch to UFS is a pretty big deal, although it would mean that customers would need to purchase new storage mediums to take advantage of it.

As for the RX100 V’s release, it seems that there is a chance that the camera was delayed due to the earthquake in Kumamoto in Japan. Sony Alpha Rumors’ source states that once the lab in Kumamoto is fully operational that Sony will make the announcement.
