If you’ve been looking for a reason to visit Singapore and you love the idea of autonomous cars, well then this is the perfect reason for you to make a trip. Delphi today announced that it has started testing its self-driving car service in Singapore. Delphi is going to provide a fleet of autonomous cars to the Singapore Land Transport Authority as well as the software required for this program.
Delphi has provided a fleet of Audi SQ5s which are capable of driving themselves. For this test the company will be using three fixed routes which cover an area of about 5 miles.
During the initial phases of this test, a driver will be present in the car at all times to take over in the case of an emergency but over time the human driver will be removed. The ultimate aim is to have self-driving cars on the road that don’t even have a steering wheel.
“It allows us to demonstrate that we have the complete ecosystem, knowledge and capability, the vehicle, the sensors, the automated software controlling connectivity to the cloud, the management of the fleet, the data and analytics on how the vehicle is performing,” said Glen DeVos who is the vice president of engineering for Delphi.
Delphi is going to run the test in Singapore for about three years and it’s aiming for a full commercial release by the year 2022.
