google_project_fiAs it stands, Google’s Project Fi’s plans are pretty much a one-size-fits-all. Given that Google’s time as an MVNO is still relatively short compared to other carriers out there, we guess it makes sense that Google would want to tread carefully out of the gate. However it looks like Google could be planning on expanding Project Fi’s offerings.

This is according to the folks at Android Police who have performed a teardown of the latest Project Fi APK. From what they found within the APK teardown were references made to “group plans”, which at its most basic allows one person to control the plan while other users are under his/her banner.

This means that in theory, users could setup group plans for families where one (or both) parents could be in charge of the main plan, and give their kids some data/phone call allowance. The same could also be applied to companies looking to setup a group plan where they pretty much get to control usage by their employees.

The APK also revealed some control features such as shutting off data or service to a particular account, so if one of the users under the plan is going over their data, the main user can then turn off data for that particular account. Users can also be added or removed, although users can also remove themselves if they wish, although as noted by Android Police any charges incurred during their time with the group will still be charged to the group’s owner.

That being said, there is no word on when these changes will be instituted into Project Fi, but given that they were already spotted in the APK, we can only imagine it probably won’t be too long until Google makes it official (assuming they do).
